Sunday Highlight 116 - Happy Holidays

Here's a fun little puzzle game that came in my last Vsauce Curiosity Box. It isn't too exciting to watch, but the music is interesting and I've added a two minute special message for all of you at the end. I hope you enjoy it!
(PS: Adobe After Effects is a pain in the buns! But, I think it was worth it.)

Sunday Highlight 115 - Stationeers... Space Survival Game without a Manual

Stationeers, a game by Indy game developer Rocketwerkz led by designer Dean Hall of Day Z fame, is a super hard core space survival game. There is no hand holding in this game. You survive by your engineering wits alone... or you don't... and forget about manuals. Manuals are for tourists!

Sunday Highlight 111 - Grinding for the Fletcher

I need a tier X destroyer, and the Shimakaze doesn't count any more. So here I am grinding my way to tier X on another line. I need me a monster known as Gearing. I hope you enjoy!

Sunday Highlight 110 - Learning Where to Aim

Learning where tanks have weak points, and how leveraging them can increase your tank's capabilities, is a key ingredient for going from a mediocre World of Tanks player to a good player. This is why I watch a lot of WoT replays. It's a great way to see what works, and what does not.

Sunday Highlight 109 - Base Building

Just a quick tour and talk on what I've been doing for the past 80 hours in No Man's Sky. I now consider it my best half-price buy of all time on Steam.

Sunday Highlight 108 - Sick Games

When you get sick, there is one game you can play that resonates very well with the mood. It's a long one this week, not that I meant it to be. I was just getting reacquainted with death on a global scale.

Sunday Highlight 106 - Toxic

World of Warships has enough problems with ship balancing issues and passive play, but that won't necessarily kill the game. Toxicity will. And when it's already hard enough to choose WoWS over some other more fun game, these games seem like a death knell.

Sunday Highlight 105 - Brave Sir Robin

This will probably garner me a copyright strike, though I think it's fair use. Even if not, you'll likely see advertisements for copyright and there's not a thing I can do about it. But hopefully you'll get a chuckle from it, and that'll make it all worthwhile. #hf

Sunday Highlight 104 - Taking it Down a Tier or Six

Where do you go in World of Warships for gimmick free naval battles? Why tier II of course! So I took my German V-25 destroyer out to see how much trouble I could get into.

Sunday Highlight 103 - WoWS Woes

I am disillusioned with World of Warships (WoWS.) It has become World of Battleships and a game of gimmicks. It isn't fun to play anymore, and I've too little free time to spend on games that are not fun. I have other choices, and until Wargaming corrects what WoWS has become, you'll see fewer videos of the game from me, though I will strive to play it one night a week at least.

Sunday Highlight 101 - Ultimate General: Civil War

I have picked up yet another game. In my younger days I played a lot of tactical simulations including such oldies as "Shiloh: Grant's Trial in The West" and "Road to Gettysburg." Now there is Ultimate General: Civil War, and what a treat it is for old war horses like me. I hope it is for you as well. Enjoy!

Sunday Highlight 100 - No Man's Sky 2017

It's been just under a year since No Man's Sky released and it is finally shaping up to be a good game. With the latest content update called Atlas Rises, Hello games is finally giving us a game that I think is worth playing. For me it's relaxing and fun, because I love exploration and building stuff. If you do too, let me show you No Man's Sky 2017.

Sunday Highlight 99 - Solar Eclipse 2017

I'm putting this one up early. The folks I shared the event with asked, and I'm happy to oblige. This is the entire 3.5 (ish) hour eclipse compressed into five (5!) minutes. The middle four (ish) minutes run at near standard time. The eclipse itself is about time and a half (so a bit of slow motion.) The hour plus leading into and out of the eclipse is time-lapsed at a rate of one frame every 10 minutes. I hope you enjoy it.

Sunday Highlight 97 - Akizuki Action

I think I finally have the Akizuki dialed-in. Here is my first World of Warships game in her once I was out of stock and had my captain properly trained. And speaking of the captain, you could do this with a 14 point captain by dropping the two other 2nd level skills I have other than Last Stand, but having more points will make you just that much more effective. I mention in the video I trained Inertia Fuse for HE. I did this because the 100mm shells of the Akizuki SHATTER ON EVERYTHING if you do not. This greatly reduces the chance of setting a fire as well. If you expect to do damage, you must have this skill.
There will be a break of two weeks duration due to the total solar eclipse. The center line of totality is just a few miles north of my house, and I am getting the hell out of town for that circus. I'm going somewhere further east along the line of totality where there will be many people but not the circus we expect here. Until it's all over, have fun!

Sunday Highlight 96 - Tirpitz and North Carolina vs Two Iowas

What happens when two tier eight battleships brawl with two tier nine battleships? Well, when one of the tier eight battleships is a Tirpitz the fight might be just a little more fair than you think. Just remember, the counter for a battleship isn't necessarily another battleship. Enjoy!

Sunday Highlight 95 - The Grind

One thing all gamers dread is the grind. No game is really free. You only get to decide if you spend all your time on the grind, or use money to reclaim a portion of your life. Either way, you will pay with hours of your life you'll never get back. Is it worth it? Well, we continue to grind. Is that an answer? Maybe. Regardless, here is a video montage of the end of my Akizuki grind. Enjoy!

Sunday Highlight 94 - Japanese Gunboat

I finally get into the Akizuki in World of Warships and only a few games too late, as Wargaming nerfs the Shiratsuyu into oblivion in patch 0.6.8. No, I'm not bitter. #sarcasm However, I really like the Akizuki. She may only have four torpedo tubes and teeny 100 mm main guns, but the torpedoes have a 10 km range the eight guns in four double turrets fire every three seconds. Can you sing, "Come on baby light my fire?" I knew you could. I just wonder how long before Wargaming nerfs the Akizuki because BB players complain it causes too many fires.

Sunday Highlight 93 - Load the Gold

My first Ace Tanker match in the Hellcat, with a bit of a historical treatment to the video. I hope you like it. As for the Hellcat itself, this tank destroyer was evidently OP as when Wargaming released it many years ago. They have since nerfed the out of it. With a good crew, it performs adequately, but it struggles to penetrate higher tier tanks with it's anemic 160mm of penetration which drops to 135mm at max range, where you will have to fight it because it is too fragile for close or even medium range engagements. That means you'll have to dab the 2 key often, and then your rounds will still bounce as you'll see in this video. It is not what I would consider a noob friendly vehicle. YMMV.

Sunday Highlight 92 - Bert the Ace Tanker

In World of Tanks there is only one self-propelled gun that nearly everyone adores. He's Bert, called the avenger by some, but that was well before my time in the game. To me Bert simply embodies what all artillery in the game should be: lower damage, shorter range and unable to one-shot anything. Unfortunately artillery by its very nature is King of Battle for a reason, and in a game were distances are measured in hundreds of meters, artillery really has no place. Except for Bert. He's a good chap.

Sunday Highlight 91 - The 18 Derp Overture

Some people claim there is a Russian bias in World of Tanks. They say tanks like the KV-2 are overpowered at their tier. Perhaps the Russians simply have superior inspirational music. You be the judge.

Sunday Highlight 90 - The Room Two

It's the summer Steam sale! Yay! One of the titles I found on sale is The Room Two. I missed out on The Room, but for a buck 24 ($1.24) I couldn't pass up The Room Two. Here is the first chapter. It is basically a tutorial and not all that difficult, so no spoilers here really. If you'd like spoilers, I can certainly post them. I plan on recording every room. That said, it tool 90 minutes for me to figure out the second room, so don't look for it on Sunday Highlights. ;-) I'll just do a playlist. Oh, and the eerie music is mostly non-game music I added to enhance the mood. See the credit below. This game is best played in a dark room. Enjoy!

Sunday Highlight 89 - Nostalgia

It's been a long time since I checked in on New Eden. Things are a little different. Well, a few things are. Most of them are the same. It's all very familiar; comforting in a way. Should I? Should the care-badger industrialize again? Tell me in the comments if you think I should.

Mabrick's May 2017 Vacation

It occurred to me as I was posting Sunday Highlight 88 that I neglected to create a post last week for my vacation video. Oops. Sorry. So I am correcting that now. Watch this 4k video, which will still look very good in HD, to find out where Mabrick went on his May 2017 vacation. You will not enjoy it as much as I did, but I hope you will find it interesting.

Sunday Highlight 88 - Thunderbolt VII Action and Vacation Video

Here is a really good standard battle on Westfield in my premium tier VI U.S. medium tank the Thunderbolt. This tank is just a Sherman tank, but with extra armor welded onto the front and sides it is a real brawler. And making his first appearance in one of my videos is nadaRLprsn, my real life son - so evidently a real person regardless after all. At this point in he had played less than 300 games of WoT. The name is a bit of a complaint about how some World of Tanks players treat noobs. Be sure to hang until the end of the video for a special noob treat. Enjoy!

Sunday Highlight 87 - A Sick Game

Here is a sick game of World of Warships in my Japanese Shiratsuyu destroyer, and I don't mean that in the new millennium sense of the word. However, I needed to make an announcement and this was the only game I had.

Sunday Highlight 86 - Tyrannosaurus Tirpitz

Here we have my second game in the Tirpitz after World of Warships update 0.6.4 buffed its secondaries to match the Tirpitz's sister ship, the Bismarck. The first game wasn't bad, but I missed on element of the secondary build so I didn't get full range on them. However, in this game I have the full 10.6 kilometer range and I put them to good use. At the end of the match, I will show you how to set up the Tirpitz and your commander for a secondary build. Enjoy!

Sunday Highlight 85 - How to DD in Co-op

Today we have a special request match. The Macker wanted to know how I would deal with bots in a higher tier co-op match. Though I ended up being high tier in this match, it shows precisely how to deal with the bots in World of Warships co-op. It's all about using their own code against them. Islands help, but judicious use of smoke and speed boost will get you by on more open maps. Just remember to use them to break contact, not hide. I hope it helps. Enjoy!

Sunday Highlight 84 - A Flock of V-gulls

I decided I need a new ship line to play in World of Warships, and I've not gone up the German destroyer line yet. So I purchases a V-25 and hit the high seas. It wasn't long before I was finding some success in this quirky little three gun boat with the V-shaped torpedo launchers. It also seems I wasn't the only one with this idea. There was a whole flock of us.

Sunday Highlight 83 - Carry Harder

In my USS Texas on the Ring map in domination mode, I'm low tier but  do what I can as I spread it around on my way to earning the Confederate award. But it takes a team, and even though I hand out a paddling four times it isn't enough without backup. But wait, that's not all! I spend the last nine minutes discussing Mass Effect Andromeda and what I think about the "controversy" surrounding the game.

Sunday Highlight 82 - Almost Made It

Today in World of Warships we have a match on the Hot Spot map in domination mode. I spawn on the eastern flank of our western flotilla, and proceed to capture A point. However, that goes quickly wrong as our potatoes get fried and I feel lucky not to have been included in that batch myself. Fortunately our eastern flotilla does a bit better and eventually comes to my rescue. But, will it be in time?

Sunday Highlight 81 - Nail-biter

Another World of Warships game in my newly promoted tier VIII Kiev destroyer. As the other Kiev player on my team states towards the end of the match, this was a bit of a nail-biter. Enjoy!

Sunday Highlight 80 - For The Macker

Here is a Shiratsuyu match on Shards for my long time subscriber The Macker. He wanted one more World of Warships video before I started playing Mass Effect: Andromeda next week, so here it is. In this match, I use my stealth and mobility to engage ships in all three capture points of domination mode. I don't want to give too much away, but I always wonder if I ever make anyone rage quite out of frustration? You'll know why I ask when you watch the match. Enjoy!

Sunday Highlight 79 - Kiev Reborn

This week you get another World of Warships game, because in patch 0.6.2 the Russian destroyer line split and my favorite Russian DD, the Kiev, went to Tier VIII. Was this a good move or a bad move for the Kiev? Time will tell, but this game will tell you how I feel about it. Enjoy!

Sunday Highlight 77 - Snatching Victory

How over powered is the E25 tank destroyer in World of Tanks? Well, this is what it can do in the hands of a terrible noob with a no skill crew. No wonder people love this tank when they play it, and hate it when they play against it. Did I mention it gets preferential match making too?

Sunday Highlight 76 - Kiev Katastrophe

Last Thursday was particularly difficult on my poor, old, tired Russian destroyer the Kiev in World of Warships. I started off playing like a potato. Eventually I started to get into the groove, but my teams weren't. The last straw was... nah, you'll have to watch the video to find that out. I hope you enjoy these clips more than I enjoyed them. Have a great week.

Sunday Highlight 75 - Cromwell B Versus and Ace Patriot

Here are two World of Tanks matches where I get stuck in and fight hard. The first is on El Halluf in the Cromwell Berlin I bought myself for Christmas, and though it starts slow it ends in a bang. The second is on Malinovka in my T26E5 Patriot U.S. heavy tank. It takes place on the hill. Where else? It's fast and furious, and for every enemy tank I take down it seems two takes its place.

Sunday Highlight 74 - Long Live the King

Now comes the days of the king. Here we have the König, a tier V German battleship, in a standard battle on the Archipelago Map. I must say I am not very fond of playing the König. It's sluggish, has bad dispersion and terrible turret traverse. However, it's AA is not so bad. When dealing with same tier aircraft carriers it has a chance, so long as you anticipate the drop and have enough time to turn into the attack. Against skilled carrier captains though you'll want a stay in a crowd if at all possible. All in all, this is just a stepping stone on the way to the Bismarck, if the grind doesn't kill my will to live.

Sunday Highlight 73 - Hellacious Hellcat

I am certainly not the best Hellcat player in World of Tanks. In fact, I struggle with this tier VI U.S. tank destroyer. But here are two of my best games in the Hellcat, and hopefully you'll find them entertaining. If you've any suggestions on how to better my Hellcat play, please leave a comment instructing me. I will be grateful. Enjoy, and have a great week!

Sunday Highlight 72 - Shiratsuyu Exposé Update 0.6.0

World of Warships update 0.6.0 brought tremendous, and much needed, changes to Captain Skills. They've reduced the skill "tree" from five levels to four, and broadened it to eight columns in four categories. This means captains will have a top skill like Concealment Expert with only 10 points, and will be nearly twice as skilled at maximum points than previously possible. Does that may a difference with the Shiratsuyu? You bet your arse it does.

Sunday Highlight 71 - Diametric Ace Tankers

This Sunday we have two diametric Ace Tanker matches in World of Tanks. And by that I mean the two tanks featured are about as different as tanks can possibly be different. The first match is on the map Redshire in the new Swedish light tank the Strv m/40L. It isn't the world's best light tank, but given the right situation it can really rock and roll. The second match is in my O-I assaulting on the Siegfried Line map. Brace yourself for derp heavy street to street fighting.
