If this is Incarna, I'm in!

This came out a month ago? How did I miss this sweetness?

Just beautiful!

Aurum, Incarna, Dust 514 and the future of Eve Online.

It's official, micro-transactions are coming. The announcement has been met with the usual vocal minority and their negativity toward anything different. To wit -

  • CCP isn't investing in Eve Online and its loyal players like it should!
  • Dust 514 isn't a spaceship game and is therefore wrong-headed and evil!
  • Micro-transaction in any form are just an evil capitalistic endeavor to make profit!
  • Why aren't they working on the incredibly important <insert your pet aspect of Eve here> problems more!
  • It's the end of the "world" as we know it! (shout out to R.E.M.)

Jesus H. Christ people, would you just shut up already. If you don't like the way CCP runs THEIR game just sod off would you? No one is forcing you to play this game. Take your $15 a month (per account) and your histrionics and go somewhere else if you don't like it. Otherwise, sit down, shut up and play.

Whew, is that a load off my mind. Now, I've wrote it before and I stand by what I've wrote. Eve Online belongs to CCP. If CCP is to grow as a company (and Eve Online is to continue as a game,) they MUST have other revenue streams. Status Quo is death. If you think Eve Online will be around in 10 years if nothing changes, you are wrong. As players, we are different. We like internet spaceship games. Most people don't. The vast majority of people like the instant gratification of Call of Duty or HALO or even World of Warcraft to the game play of internet spaceships. Eve Online is a non-starter with most of the gaming world.

If we are to have internet spaceships in the future, we have to accept that CCP will need to change their focus. They have to go where the interest is (and therefore the money.) That is not internet spaceships. So please, for the sake of the game we all love, give it a rest. Fortunately, I think CCP already gets it. That's why we have Incarna and Dust 514 just around the corner though everyone is kicking and screaming on the way there. The future is terrifying when you are not in the driver's seat. But at least there will be a future.

Miner's Heaven

I took Space Ghost out for a quick scan of the system tonight. I had a hit on my first pass. I began to scan it down. The new probe control to adjust all probes equidistant from the central probe is a god send. I soon had myself a Gravimetric Anomaly. One more scan and it revealed itself to be a small Hedbergite, Hemorphite and Jaspet deposit. Hot damn, it's a mother-load! I warped to it to see if it was still untouched.

Not a soul around and every 'roid untouched. It doesn't get any better than that. A quick look at the scanner and I knew what I had.

It was enough to keep me busy for a couple hours. I docked, boarded Blue Bucket and headed back to get to work. My strip miners chewed and chewed and chewed. I admired the beauty of the 'roids...

... until my turrets turned on them. When the anomaly was empty with nothing but 'roid dust floating in the void, I tallied up my haul: 12 million ISK for less than 3 hours work. Not a bad haul if for no other reason than it was easy money. I saw nary a soul the entire time. Peaceful. Like heaven.

Fly careful.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

I wish I'd have taken a video.

For kicks I bought and fitted a Brutix (my first) for an Incursion. I wanted to get close and shoot something. My Drake just lacks that feeling of "in your face melting it." Here is Brutus as he was in the fight (and still is.)

The proof.

So now I know it can be done. I wasn't terribly satisfied with the damage I was doing against the Sansha frigates. Here, see for yourself.

Even with the tracking rigs and the sensor booster and all I still had a hard time hitting the damn things. It's also going to take a MWD to get them into web range reliably. No, the fit isn't perfect. Still, I soloed it! Go me!

Fly careful.

Hey, I didn't vote for it so don't blame me!

And I mean you Hallan Turrek of "a merry life and a short one." I do not disagree that null sec got nerfed. I DO disagree with who is responsible. To be specific, I disagree with your one sentence paragraph,

"0.0 just got punked by a bunch of carebears."

I did not punk anything. If you want to blame someone, blame CCP. It's their game and they wrote the patch. I've never cared about true sec, jump bridges or ship scan range. None of it affects my carebear universe much.

The truth it is, I don't want null sec nerfed or made harder. I want null sec to be awash in ISK. I make Wetware Mainframes. I need all the POS bashing going on in null sec to keep the prices elevated. I'm making a killing here!

Fly careful.

The new patch is in and I'll have to wait until this evening. Bah! Bah I tell you!

Of the more than several blogs I've read reviewing the 1.5 update, I've not read anything about this:

  • When holding down ‘alt’, your probes will scale around the center, making it easier to adjust them. A green line has added to make it more intuitive.

I for one am very glad to see this little bit of goodness sneaking into the patch. Having to drag 4 probes to a central probe every time I drop scan distance is a real time consumer. This will make me at least twice as fast scanning things down. It's almost like a free level 5 scanning skill!

And then there is this which has been mentioned already:

  • The capabilities of the onboard scanner have been substantially increased. The range is now 64 AU and the delay to return results is only 10 seconds.

W-space just got about 50 AU easier. I'm not sure this does anything for systems where local populates, but it could help focus probes if your looking for someone specific I suppose. In w-space, life will never be the same I'm thinking. It'll be interesting so read what Tiger Ears says about it later.

Fly careful.

Too damn cheap to buy an Orca!

Let's assume that a certain carebear is too damn cheap to buy an Orca at current prices even if he does have 2.5 billion ISK laying around. I mean really, can you believe what some people want for those things? It seems like just 3 months ago they were going for less than 400 million ISK. It's highway robbery I tell you!

Anyway, back to "too damn cheap." Let's assume said carebear wants a modicum of protection for his cargo. Let's further assume that once in a while, at totally random intervals, the carebear makes a Jita run through a .5 bottleneck that sees lots of pirate activity.

No, the carebear's cargo isn't really all that valuable in the great scheme of things. However, it is a considerable investment in hard labor. The cargo's value in sweat alone is astronomical. Wait, every cargo is astronomical in New Eden. It's the nature of things...

Okay, its value in terms of sweat alone is tremendous. So the carebear, knowing he'll be scanned without a corporate cargo hold to hide things in, wants to be as unappetizing as possible based on the the premise the ISK value of the cargo in question does not justify the firepower, planning and risk to pop him. (And yes, the carebear knows that sometimes they do it just for fun. Not much anyone can do about being on the receiving end of someone else's crappy day.)

So which fitting would you pick? What would you do differently?

This just in, null sec now getting the attention they've been demanding!

EVE Online | EVE Insider | Dev Blog

CCP Soundwave just made public specifics about what is going to get done straight away in null sec. I can hear the wails starting already. ZOMG, change is coming and it's so scary! How will we ever survive?

Relax null sec dudes and dudettes, it's all good. From what I've been reading (and no, I've never been to null sec but I read a lot) any change will do it good. You all crave challenge. I'm all for giving it to you. I especially love the one jump gate per system rule. Now that's stirring the pot!

The other thing that really caught my eye was this question.

"Is 0.0 industry currently geared to support the population living there?"

Oh baby, oh baby, oh baby that makes me giddy. No! It's way out of whack. If they can't produce everything they need, that just might drive them to Empire to buy. I would welcome that in a New York minute! However, if they don't have the cash to buy with, that would be bad. Okay, there might be a downside to this question. But still, I think it is more an opportunity than not. I look forward to hearing what they have planned!

The beauty that is New Eden.

In the hustle and bustle of making a profit, it is sometimes easy to overlook the beauty that surrounds us.

Then, one day as you exit Jita IV, you look up from your manifest listings displayed on your P.A.D. and it stuns you into immobility. As other capsuleers scream at you over local to clear the departure lane, you lose yourself in the glory of it. As your collision alarm peeps insistently, you pull yourself reluctantly back to the task at hand. You warp away, but the image is burned into your soul forever.

I got nothing.

Just can't let a week go by and not post something. PI grinds along and the money flows in at a steady pace. It's not a tremendous amount. I mean, I'm a carebear in Empire space for Maker's sake. There is no getting rich quick when you work for a living. So, work, that's all there is to report.
